Book the right campsite, season and access

Understand advance reservations, hike-in sites, winter availability and park-specific booking arrangements.

Check the actual booking route

Many CPW camping pages require a reservation and a separate valid park pass. Boyd Lake's page describes online or telephone reservations up to six months ahead. Ridgway's page also lists special arrangements for designated accessible campsites, including telephone booking and a qualifying vehicle placard. Use the current page for the park and site you need; a general reservation search does not replace those requirements.

A campground can be open on fewer nights

Lory offers only hike-in backcountry campsites, without vehicle access, water, restrooms or tent pads. Between the Tuesday after Labor Day and the Friday before Memorial Day, sites are reservable only on Friday and Saturday nights. These limitations matter when comparing a midweek trip with a weekend stay. Confirm the date, access method and available services before treating a campground listing as a suitable overnight stop.

Local parks use different systems

Reynolds and White Ranch are Jefferson County parks with online-permit camping. Their reviewed pages require permits at least 24 hours in advance and describe tent-only walk-in sites, with limits on consecutive nights. White Ranch's Sourdough Springs Campground closes November 1–March 31. Do not use CPW booking rules as a substitute for the county's permit process, and check the specific campground before selecting dates.

Keep reservations separate from access changes

St. Vrain's paving project makes full-hookup sites 42–87 unavailable and closes nearby pond trails. Golden Gate Canyon reduces winter campground capacity and closes several service buildings even while some lodging continues. A reservation requirement and an operational closure answer different questions. Read both the booking page and current notices before paying for a stay, and recheck them when your trip approaches.
